As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in helping students with disabilities succeed academically, socially, and personally. You'll work alongside general education teachers, families, and support staff to create meaningful learning experiences and ensure students receive the services and support outlined in their IEPs.

What You'll Do

  • Develop engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that address diverse learning needs and learning styles.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide specialized instruction through individual, small-group, and co-taught settings.
  • Use evidence-based strategies to address students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
  • Collaborate closely with general education teachers and school staff to support meaningful inclusion.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction and interventions based on student needs and data.
  • Develop and administer a variety of assessments to evaluate student learning and growth.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, services, and educational plans.
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with students and help them recognize and develop their strengths.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, students, colleagues, and school leadership.
  • Stay current with research, best practices, and effective strategies in special education.
  • Participate in school activities, meetings, and events that contribute to the broader CSA community.
  • Help maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education; Master's degree is a plus.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate/license for elementary or secondary education with an appropriate Special Education endorsement.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based special education practices and instructional strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong organization, planning, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
